The Swiss food giant has also recently bought soya foods business Specialised Protein Products. Nestle bought the business for ZAR106m to develop “good-quality and affordable soya-based products”.

Sullivan O’Carroll, chairperson and MD of Nestle’s business in South Africa, said the moves demonstrate the company’s “ongoing commitment to investment in Africa”.

O’Carroll added: “We will continue to invest in South Africa, in line with our long-term commitment to business sustainability and economic development.”
