A spokesperson declined to elaborate further on why Vriens quit the business when contacted by just-food.

Chief operations officer Dirk Poelman will take on Vriens’ role on an interim basis while Barry Callebaut looks for a permanent replacement. The spokesperson said the company would interview “internal and external candidates”.

Before joining Barry Callebaut in what was a new role for the company, Vriens spent four years running his own business that invested in developing new consumer brands. He has also had stints at FMCG giants like Red Bull, Procter & Gamble and Mars Inc.
