A batch of soy beans, imported from Italy, was found during routine testing to have been genetically modified. An urgent alert was sent to farmers that had bought the feed, reported the Independent on Sunday.

Two flocks of free-range organic chickens had been fed the GM soy beans, although no birds had been sold. The farm had its licence to sell organic chickens removed and was forced to sell-off the birds at low prices as non-organic chickens.
