“Our goal has always been to offer Chobani as a locally-sourced, locally-crafted and manufactured product. We are currently in talks with potential partners and it is our expectation to begin producing Chobani in the UK and creating UK jobs,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said Chobani also plans to open stores in the UK, similar to its cafe model in New York and is actively looking at properties in the country.

“Producing locally, using only naturally sourced ingredients and being an affordable, high quality, thick and creamy, strained yoghurt has proved tremendously successful in the US and Australia, and we have high hopes of the same result in the UK.”

All lines are expected to be off supermarket shelves by January, with a relaunch planned in the next 12 months.

Since launching in the UK last year, Chobani, which is the number one Greek yoghurt manufacturer in the US, has faced problems.

In March, the UK High Court ruled the company could not sell its products as Greek yoghurt in the country following a complaint from rival Fage, which is based in Greece.

Chobani secured an appeal against the ruling in June. The appeal is set to be heard later this year.
