2 Sisters entered into a period of consultation about the proposed closure of the facility in August. Olivier Goudineau, divisional managing director, had described the Haughley Park facility at the time as “an ageing site” with “many challenges”.

The Haughley Park site, which produces roasted chicken for supermarkets, was acquired by the business in 2005.

Despite the closure last week, 2 Sisters said it is “firmly committed” to its operations in East Anglia and has invested “tens of millions of pounds” into the region since 2005.

The company operates other facilities in Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex, with sites at Eye, Flixton, Witham, Basildon and Thetford.
