US meat processor Tyson Foods has said it reached an agreement with US and state regulators to pay US$7.5m in fines and clean up a Missouri facility where untreated waste water entered storm sewers.

Tyson said it had modified its facilities in Sedalia, Missouri, in order to comply with environmental regulations in an agreement with Missouri and the US Department of Justice.


The company, which is the world’s largest producer of chicken, said the financial settlement was close to what it had reserved for the case and would not materially affect earnings, reported Reuters.


Tyson said it would pay $5.5m to the US, $1m to the Missouri Natural Resources Protection Fund and $1m to the Pettis County School Fund.
