Japanese conglomerate Lotte is planning to expand ice cream output at a plant near Tokyo, according to a company set to supply a production line to the facility.
US-based technology group SPX said it had won a contract to have its processing equipment installed at the site, 70 miles outside the Japanese capital.

The expansion is expected to start early next year. The increased capacity is scheduled to be fully operational in 2015.
“SPX has enjoyed a strong working relationship with Lotte over more than 30 years, and this ice cream production facility expansion project promises to build on that legacy,” said Marc Michael, president of SPX’s Flow Food & Beverage division. “By working closely with Lotte to expand the production capacity of their main ice cream processing facility, we are confident we can help them benefit from greater production capacity and economies of scale. As a result, we anticipate this new facility will better position Lotte to meet future demand for its ice cream products across Japan.”
Lotte was not immediately available for comment.
