UK food group Aunt Bessie’s has entered the country’s chilled sector through a tie-up with pie manufacturer Pork Farms.

Aunt Bessie’s, owned by the privately-owned William Jackson Food Group, sells frozen and ambient products and said the move into chilled was an “exciting opportunity to extend the brand further”.

Under licence, Pork Farms will manufacture three pie lines sold under the Aunt Bessie’s brand, including a steak and ale pie.

“Our consumer research has consistently shown that shoppers associate the name Aunt Bessie’s with traditional family meals and our hot pie range fits this proposition perfectly,” James Turton, Aunt Bessie’s commercial director, said.

The tie-up is Pork Farms’ latest association with another company. It makes quiche sold under Noble Foods’ The Happy Egg Co. brand and pork pies branded with Mizkan’s Branston pickle.
