Australian dairy firm Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory has struck a deal to supply a new brand exclusively to Coles, the country’s number two food retailer.
WCB said today (19 January) that its Great Ocean Road cheddar cheese and milk would be sold via Coles stores under a five-year deal.
From May, the dairy processor plans to sell a minimum of 4,000 tonnes of cheese a yar under the brand. It will also supply Coles’ Victorian stores with fresh milk.
WCB said the new brand would require 50m more litres of milk from farmers each year, which, it said, “means new investment and jobs for the region”.
In WCB’s last financial year, which ran until 30 June, net profit more than doubled to A$18.5m (US$19.3m). Sales increased 21.1% to A$504.1m.
