Irish food manufacturer Kerry Group has confirmed plans to close its meat ingredients facility in County Limerick with the potential loss of 33 jobs.
A spokesperson for Kerry told just-food today (31 May) that the company had decided to consolidate production into other ingredients plants it operates in the UK, in Bristol and Glasgow.
“We began consultation with employees three weeks ago. The plant will close by the end of June,” the spokesperson said.”
The facility, which Kerry has operated for three years, employs around 33 staff. The company said it is in discussions with employees with regard to redeployment opportunities to other facilities.
“We have already had positive engagement with quite a few employees with regard to other opportunities.”
SIPTU representative Andrew McCarthy said the union is in ongoing discussions with staff about the various options.

By GlobalData“We’re in discussions about the number of options available to people, whether that’s relocation to other plants or staff taking a redundancy package,” McCarthy said.
“We had discussions with HR last Friday and we have another meeting scheduled for next Friday. I’m hopeful of a resolution. The site will close but we hope to be able to reach an agreement for an amicable settlement.”
