Premier Foods plc today (16 January) announced it will create around 70 new jobs at its logistics operation on the Swift Valley Industrial Estate in Rugby.

The UK’s largest food maker, which produces brands such as Ambrosia, Hovis and Mr Kipling, is looking for applicants as part of a bid to strengthen its logistics operation.

Chris Chaplin, Premier’s customer service and logistics director, said: “We are delighted to be able to launch a recruitment drive in Rugby. We felt that the current location could provide us with the right mix of talent and capability to expand our operations.

“We are looking for ambitious people with a good track record who want to be part of a permanent team and support us in creating a centre of logistics excellence.”

Premier had a difficult 2011 with profit warnings, attempts to refinance its debts and concerns over its pension liabilities.

Last week, there was speculation that the company is planning to sell its Hartley’s jams and Haywards pickles businesses as part of its bid to bring its debts under control.
