Japanese food maker Ajinomoto has started full-scale operations at a repacking plant for umami seasoning in the Côte d’Ivoire.
The plant has been opened by Ajinomoto’s overseas sales company, Ajinomoto Afrique De L’ouest and is located in the Yopougon industrial area of Abidjan. The company did not disclose how much it had invested in the facility.
Ajinomoto established Ajinomoto Afrique De L’ouest in January last year and started sales of AJI-NO-MOTO seasoning in the domestic market. Initially, it sold the ingredient as an imported finished product from West African Seasoning (WASCO) of Nigeria.
The new repacking plant has allowed the company to locally package bulk AJI-NO-MOTO imported from Ajinomoto do Brasil Indústria e Comércio to cater to the local consumer needs.
With the addition of the plant in Côte d’Ivoire, Ajinomoto said it intends to further expand its business in the Sub-Saharan region, centred on west Africa.
