UK retailer Morrisons is preparing for its third marketing director in 12 months with the appointment of Sainsbury’s executive Rebecca Singleton.

Morrisons, the UK’s fourth-largest food retailer, said Singleton would join the company in March.

Singleton is set to replace James Condon, a former Tesco and Asda executive, who became Morrisons’ marketing director in August. Condon then replaced Richard Lancaster, who was promoted to the role of corporate marketing and operations director after seven months in the role.

A Morrisons spokesperson told just-food that Condon had left the business.

Singleton, who will report in to Lancaster when she joins Morrisons, was head of non-food marketing at Sainsbury’s. She joined Sainsbury’s in 2007 after 12 years at Boots.

Her departure is the latest from Sainsbury’s marketing team. Last month, the UK’s third-largest grocer said Claire Harrison-Church, its director of brand communications, would leave the company next month to “pursue other opportunities”.

Sainsbury’s also admitted last month that Mark Horgan, the Mastercard executive it had lined up to be its next marketing director, decided against taking the role for “personal reasons”.

Meanwhile, Morrisons announced another appointment alongside that of Singleton. Morrisons said Simon Eastwood, its commercial director for services, would move to a new role of customer experience director.

The retailer said Eastwood would look to “provide the business with a sharper focus on customers’ relationship with Morrisons”.

Commenting on the two appointments, Morrisons commercial director Richard Hodgson said: “Maintaining the momentum of our marketing activity and putting customer experience at the heart of every thing we do are key to delivering Morrisons’ ambitious plans for 2012.  These moves ensure we have the right talent in the right places.”
