Brazilian supermarket retailer Companhia Brasileira de Distribuicao (CBD), which is also known as Pao de Acucar, has posted nominal same-store sales growth of 8% for May, helped by rising food sales.
CBD said total gross sales increased 22.8% in May, compared to the year-ago period, to R1.06bn (US$369.9m), while total net sales rose 22.7% to R896.7m, reported Dow Jones International News.
On a same-store basis, CBD’s non-food sales fell 10.2% in May, while food sales increased 13.2% compared to May last year.
Over the last few years, acquisitions have helped CBD to boost sales and overtake France’s Carrefour as the biggest supermarket retailer in Brazil.
