So far, Asda’s George range of clothing has been sold only within its supermarket stores, and the planned standalone stores demonstrate Asda’s aim to increase its 2.5% share of the UK clothing market, reported Dow Jones News.

Two pilot stores will be opened under the George banner, one in Croydon, south of London and one in Leeds, Yorkshire. The pilot will last at least a year before the company decides whether to expand further.

The George range of clothing was developed in the UK by George Davis, founder of clothing chain Next. Wal-Mart sells the range in five countries, including the US.
