Following just months after the group’s expansion northwards to Canada, the move to the Antipodes is expected to see 30 new stores built in Australia over the next five years, through a partnership with Borderless Australia Pty Ltd.

Krispy Kreme’s Australia CEO John McGuigan said the company will focus on Sydney first, then Melbourne and the eastern coast of Australia before adding stores in New Zealand.

He said later that consumers in Australia and New Zealand are already very familiar with doughnuts, but they’ll have to be introduced to Krispy Kremes.

The stores will be the Winston-Salem chain’s first outside North America, and the first step in its plans for international expansion to five countries.
