Nestle has insisted its Maggi Pazzta products on sale in India are “100% safe” amid reports tests have found a batch of products contain excessive levels of lead.

Tests at a state-owned lab in the city of Lucknow showed the pasta contained six parts per million, above the limit of 2.5ppm, a report from The Press Trust of India said.
In a statement to just-food, Nestle’s Indian operations said it had yet to receive “any formal notification” from officials in Uttar Pradesh or from the national Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
“We have seen media reports claiming that lead has been found in the product and we are investigating these claims,” it said.
However, the company added: “Maggi Pazzta is 100% safe. The finished product and the raw materials used to make it undergo rigorous testing during every stage of the manufacturing process. We will work with the authorities to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.”
