Swiss food giant Nestlé has declined to comment on a report that it had offered to divest its Starbucks ice cream brand in order to gain regulatory approval for its proposed takeover of US-based Dreyer’s Grand ice cream.

The Starbucks ice cream brand, which Dreyer’s licenses from the US coffee giant Starbucks, would be sold to CoolBrands International, reported the Wall Street Journal, citing lawyers familiar with the negotiations.


The US Federal Trade Commission voted unanimously this week to authorise staff to seek a preliminary injunction against the takeover deal, because of concerns the deal would lead to too little competition between the top brands. For more on this story, click here.
