US pork exports rose 3.5% in 2002 and are likely to rise a similar amount this year, according to agriculture economist Glenn Grimes.

US pork exports have risen each year for the past 11 years and reached a record high of 1.614 billion pounds in 2002.
Grimes said Canada, Japan and South Korea are likely to be growth destinations for US pork exports this year, whereas exports to Mexico are unlikely to grow.
“Mexico is one that we have concerns about because they are accusing us of dumping and are trying to get a tariff. If they get a tariff it is going to be hard for us to get any growth in Mexico this year, we may even lose a little,” Grimes was quoted by Reuters as saying.
