Each product has 40% less salt and 60% less fat than conventional pork or beef alternatives, the company stressed.
The al fresco brand entered the freezer aisle in March this year when Kayem debuted its gourmet grillers chicken burgers.
Marketing director Sarah Crowley said: “These new frozen products feature the high-quality, all-natural ingredients that people have come to expect from al fresco, helping to make healthy cooking more convenient than ever before. Based on the success of our frozen gourmet chicken grillers launch earlier this year, we know that more consumers are looking for these better-for-you options in the freezer aisle.”
Kayem has secured distribution at grocery stores throughout the US, including Kroger, Ahold’s Stop & Shop and Harris Teeter. The breakfast sausage has a suggested price of US$3.99 while the meatballs have an RRP of $7.99.
