Amul owner, Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) is planning to set up four dairy plants in Uttar Pradesh.
An official for the company told just-food: "The company will be spending US$90.31m on the four plants that are expected to be operational in the next two years."
The plants will focus on the North Indian market which has one third of the population of the country.
The plants will be located at Kanpur, Varanasi and Saifai and will produce milk, curd, cheese and paneer products with products sold in supermarkets.
At a recent conference in India, GCMMF managing director R S Sodhi said at present Amul was collecting 500,000 litres of milk from families in Uttar Pradesh. Over the next three years, it planned to increase this to 4.5m litres of milk.
Last month, Amul confirmed it would be setting up a greenfield cheese plant in Palanpur, Gujarat, for the production of its Amul brand. The investment in the plant will total US$92m and, after completion, Amul will triple its cheese output capacity.
