The US has reportedly lifted a ban on poultry and poultry product imports from Ontario.

According to a report in Reuters citing a notice from the US Agriculture Department, effective immediately the restrictions will be removed on imports of products ranging from live poultry and research birds to hatching eggs.

The US suspended imports from Ontario in April after a strain of the disease was detected d on a farm in the province. It infected farms in Canada and the US and has resulted in 48m turkey and chicken deaths in the US since December.

In April, Saudi Arabia also banned imports of poultry and eggs in Canada, following moves from Hong Kong and Japan.

The bird flu outbreak has significantly impacted US poultry processors. Earlier this week, Sanderson Farms said restrictions on exports and lower poultry prices due to the outbreak hit its profits and sales during the third quarter.
