French supermarket giant Carrefour said its sales in Switzerland totalled 1bn Swiss francs (US$730m) in 2002, up 5% year-on-year.

Carrefour, which recently posted a slide of 1.6% in total revenue for 2002, plans to open 10 supermarkets in Switzerland by 2006, reported the Swiss News Digest.

Elsewhere, Mexican retailer Grupo Soriana has purchased a hypermarket in Saltillo, Coahuila, from Carrefour for an undisclosed sum. Soriana said the purchase would help strengthen the group’s operations in the state of Coahuila, reported Corporate Mexico.
