Ireland is targeting an 85% jump in the value of its agri-food exports by 2025, the country's government announced today (2 July).

If the goal is reached, shipments from Ireland would be worth EUR19bn. The ambition forms part of a new, ten-year strategy, dubbed Food Wise 2025, to grow Ireland's agri-food sector.

It builds on the current Food Harvest 2020 plan, under which Ireland has seen growth in its agri-food exports.

The strategy was devised by a committee of 35 stakeholders, chaired by former Glanbia MD John Moloney. The committee included executives from the local arms of Danone and Tesco, plus the chief executives of Ireland-based convenience group Kepak and dairy group Ornua.

"Ireland's agri-food industry has led the way in Ireland's recovery. Food Wise 2025 builds on this success by identifying smarter and greener ways to deliver sustainable growth so that it can contribute to our ongoing recovery," Enda Kenny, Ireland's Taoiseach, said.
