Russia plans to extend its ban on food imports from western countries for a further six months, starting in August, after the EU extended its own sanctions against Moscow.
The EU extended economic sanctions over Russia's role in the conflict in the Ukraine until the end of January yesterday (22 June). Russian authorities reportedly then extended the country's own embargo on foreign trade in a tit-for-tat move.

"A proposal [to extend the food ban] has been prepared and submitted to the presidential administration," a spokeswoman for Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev's office was quoted as saying. "Regarding the list of goods which will continue to be under embargo, it remains virtually unchanged."
The ban prohibits food imports worth US$9bn from the US, EU, Australia, Canada and Norway.
