Five antibiotics used in livestock breeding have been withdrawn from the market by the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after it was discovered that the drugs are linked to cancer.

Public health minister Sudarat Keyuraphan said yesterday [Sunday] that FDA tests had shown that if there are residual levels of nitrofurazone, furazolidone, dimetridazole or ronidazole in meat products, they could prove carcinogenic to human consumers.
A fifth chemical chloramphenicol has also been banned after complications arose with exporting Thai meat to the European Union (EU) when the antibiotic was present.
