Canadian snacks manufacturer Groupe Biscuits Leclerc has snapped up a site in Phoenix as it looks to get closer to customers south of the border.

The facility, located in the Freeport Business Center, is Leclerc’s sixth across Canada and the US. It will be equipped with a new production line for nutritional bars and is designed to offer consumers a full selection of organic and GMO-free products.

“This acquisition fits our business vision and corporate development strategy. It will allow us to position ourselves near our US clients as well as hone in on food trends in the US West Coast,” Denis Leclerc, the company’s president, said.

The 166,500sq.ft factory will create up to 100 new jobs once operational.

Mr Leclerc said the acquisition would also allow the firm to more easily serve markets in Mexico and South America too.

He added: “Not only are we increasing our production capacity, but we will also achieve substantial savings on transportation costs by being closer to key markets.”
