Nestle has entered into a partnership with the Singapore government’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (ASTAR) to establish a global R&D platform fpr functional products.

Researchers from the Swiss food giant will collaborate with ASTAR scientists to focus on areas such as nutrition, packaging, data analytics and biotransformation, the company said.

“We are delighted to sign this research agreement with ASTAR. It provides the framework for future collaboration that will help to strengthen our food science and technology capabilities in Singapore and beyond,” Nestle’s chief technology officer, Stefan Catsicas, said.

Nestle has focused much of its NPD efforts on developing functional products and the company in a bid to help drive top-line growth. Last year, the group launched a number of functional products, including a bar for “older adults”. Nestle also acquired brain health nutrition business Pamlab.
