Canadian potato processor McCain Foods has announced plans to expand its production capacity for frozen French fries in North America.
The group said it will add over 400m pounds of capacity to its current production. McCain said it is evaluating sites in the US and Canada from the investment, with a final announcement on location due “in the coming months”.

The move follows investments in the company’s production capacity for US speciality potato products in Plover, Wisconsin. McCain has also invested CAD65m (US$50.7m) in its facility in Florenceville, New Brunswick, increasing its capacity by over 100m pounds. Globally, McCain Foods added it has made “similar investments” to grow production in Europe.
The group also acquired a majority stake in Dutch food group Van Gelovenr in March of this year. Van Gelovenr then snapped up a clutch of brands – including Van Dobben and Kwekkeboom croquettes – and plants from local peer Royaan in October.
