US meat processor ConAgra is quoted as saying it will use the nearly 19 million pounds of beef it recalled on E. coli fears to make inedible products such as oil.
Company representative Jim Herlihy said the recovered meat will be send for rendering, where it will be cooked and later used to make machine oil or tallow, among other non-food products.
Over 40 E. coli-related illnesses have been linked to the outbreak.
