South African dairy group Clover Industries is investing ZAR65m (US$5.3m) to double its production capacity for yoghurt and custard in order to meet demand.

Clover began selling its own value-added yoghurt products in the market earlier this year after the completion of its acquisition of local yoghurt maker DairyBelle. The company has since launched its own brand of yoghurt and custards: Clover Classic.

A spokesperson for the group told just-food that demand for these brands has exhausted production capacity. "Current production capacity was exceeded two months after the successful launch of Clover's yoghurt and custard brands."

An additional production line will be added to Clover's existing yoghurt pant. The project is due for completion in the fourth quarter of 2015. "This will effectively double production capacity," the spokesperson added.
