China's Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) is preparing a 22-month crackdown on food-related crimes such as food fraud and adulteration.  

The SPP announced yesterday (4 March) that it will run a campaign targeting food sector criminal activity alongside other high profile issues such as pharmaceutical and environmental crimes.

Between now and December 2016 the SPP will review the case records of administrative and law enforcement agencies, the SPP said. 

Beijing's move is a sign that the government is trying to reassure the public over safety concerns related to food and drug fraud as well as preventing environmental resource harm.
