The World Health Organisation has slammed Unilever’s launch of a fruit-based ice cream that is claimed to “help you reach five-a-day”.

The WHO reportedly said that Anglo-Dutch food and consumer products giant Unilever was hijacking the spirit of the five-a-day concept by claiming that its product would help the consumer reach the recommended daily intake of five portions of fruit and vegetables.

The product in question is Wall’s Solero Getfruit! which is a combination of ice cream and fruit puree and is claimed to contain at least 45% fruit. The one-litre tubs are being trialled in Tesco stores.

“We tend to see this as an attempt to hijack ‘five-a-day’ and use it in ways not entirely in keeping with the spirit of the concept,” a spokesman for WHO was quoted as saying by Marketing.
