Wal-Mart’s UK subsidiary Asda is planning to build mezzanine floors in up to 40 of its stores as a way of increasing space amid strict planning laws.

After a successful trial in York, the UK supermarket chain is to build mezzanine floors in the roof space of another three outlets this year, reported Dow Jones International News.


The mezzanines cost around £8m (US$12.8m) each and will house enlarged nonfood sections. The next three stores to have mezzanines installed will together gain an extra 63,000 square feet of trading space.
