Dutch dairy company Campina said it has bought German competitor Strothmann for an undisclosed sum.

Strothmann specialises in the production of desserts, yoghurt and milk drinks. The company, which employs 330 people, generated turnover of €120m (US$129m) in 2001. Most of its product is destined for the German market but Strothmann also operates in other parts of the EU, reported the Dutch News Digest.

Through the acquisition, which will see Strothmann become part of Campina Germany, Campina hopes to increase its market share in Germany from 19% to 22%.
