The high-tech shops will be fully automated and dispense with cashiers, newspaper Bergens Tidende reports.

The secret project of the Drageset concern has taken two years to complete, using new devices developed especially for the chain. Paul Drageset promised prices between 2-10% below current cut-price competitors.

The stores will be nearly completely self-service, down to customers handling billing and payment, and the concept is to save money on staffing and bulk purchasing contracts.

Drageset plans to open a total of four Oy! shops in the Bergen area by the end of 2003.
