Pukka Pies, the UK-based pie maker, is planning to build a 50,000 sq ft complex near its headquarters in Syston, Leicestershire.

It is hoping the development could create 150 jobs and add an extra GBP25m (US33.1m) to its annual turnover.

As well as the new factory and offices, there would be 55 car park spaces, new HGV access and a service yard.

In a statement the firm said: “The application for the extension to our existing manufacturing and distribution complex at The Half Croft, Syston, is a great step towards future-proofing Pukka Pies’ continued growth in the national market and will have a positive impact on the local economy.

“The proposal for the 50,000 sq ft production and distribution facility marks our commitment to our existing team and the local area, and is expected to create 150 jobs. “

Pukka, which sells its products in supermarkets, fish-and-chip shops and at sporting venues, said its proposals have been positively received by the local community and statutory authorities. “We anticipate planning approval from Charnwood Borough Council in early 2018,” it said.

The company’s existing site employs around 350 people and already has the capacity to make a million pies a week.
