Dutch supermarket group and wholesaler Laurus went on the offensive in Spain today [Tuesday], saying it had no knowledge of an alleged €48m (US$42.8m) claim filed by suppliers against Tragoz, its Spanish subsidiary.

The Spanish press reported that some 1,200 suppliers had claimed €48m from Tragoz, which was bought by Laurus in 1996. The exact nature of the reported claims is not apparent.

“We are totally unaware of this claim. We have not been summoned to appear in court,” spokeswoman Sigrid van Amerongen said.

Last week speculation intensified that Laurus will sell its Spanish operations. For more information on this click here.
