The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has extended its deadline for updating Nutrition Facts and Supplement Facts labels by 18 months for manufacturers with US$10m or more in annual food sales.
The original compliance date of 26 July 2018 has now been moved back to 1 January 2020.

Manufacturers with less than $10m in annual food sales will receive an extra year to comply – until January 1, 2021.
The FDA said that after considering a range of stakeholder comments – about 50,000 – it recognises the need for manufacturers to have additional time to make required changes.
“Additional time will also help to ensure that manufacturers have time to coordinate with various parties to complete and print updated Nutrition Facts labels for their products,” it said.
Changes to label specifications are expected to no longer include a declaration of calories from fat but will require that calorie information is more prominent.
