The EU has agreed to introduce random checks on 20% of Thai chicken exports to the EU, instead of testing 100% as it had been doing, Anan Sirimongkolkasem, president of the Thai Broiler Processing Exporters Association, said.


If no contamination is found within a certain undisclosed period of time, the EU will resume checking only 10% of Thai chicken exports.


“We expect chicken exports to the EU this year will reach 220,000 (metric) tons and be worth $336m…The Thai chicken industry will have a bright outlook from now on,” Anan was quoted as saying by Dow Jones Business News.


The EU’s strict checking system was introduced after banned substances were found in some Thai chicken and shrimp exports.
