Swiss food retailer and wholesaler Bon Appetit has posted a 2002 net loss of CHF63.2m (US$45.7m) due to extraordinary expenses of CHF93.9m.

At operating profit level, the company posted EBIT of CHF50m.

In March, the company said it was expecting a 2002 net loss of CHF65m, due in part to restructuring costs.

For 2003, the group expects to post a profit in the double-digit millions after selling off its loss-making activities. The company now plans to focus on its discount and food wholesale activities.

Sales for 2002 were down 0.8% at CHF3.17bn, reported Dow Jones International News.
