Ronald van Solt, a senior vice president at Ahold, is to replace Roberto Britto, who has been in charge of Bompreco for nearly a year.

The changeover has come amid Ahold’s attempt to withdraw from the Latin American market in order to pay off some of its €12bn (US$13.3bn) debt.

As well as the Bompreco supermarket chain, which has 119 stores, Ahold’s Brazilian assets include supermarket chain G Barbosa, with 32 stores, and the Hipercard credit card business.

US retail titan Wal-Mart, France’s Carrefour and Brazil’s Companhia Brasileira de Distribuicao have all expressed interest in Ahold’s Brazilian assets.
