Campbell Soup Co. said six employees at the US food heavyweight’s Denver, Pennsylvania, bakery plant have tested positive for Covid-19 and are in quarantine.

All of the workers are self-isolating for 14 days on full pay, the soups to sauces and snacks maker said in a statement sent to just-food. The New York-listed company noted that none of the six staff had been on site in Denver for more than two weeks, and had last been into the facility – individually and on separate days – from 19 March to 29 March.

Campbell said it had incorporated some downtime at the Pepperidge Farm bakery and biscuits plant out of concern for its remaining employees but production is now in full swing after conducting deep cleaning of the premises.

“We fully recognise that learning of a team member’s positive Covid-19 diagnosis can be difficult to hear, so we paused certain operations on 6 April to provide employees the opportunity to process this information,” the statement read. “We have since returned to production.”

The owner of the Prego cooking sauces business said the affected employees’ co-workers had been informed of the infections and any that had contact with them are also under quarantine for two weeks with pay out of an “abundance of caution”.
