2 Sisters Food Group has created a video featuring chief executive Ronald Kers appealing for workers to fill “several hundred” roles as the UK-based poultry and ready meals producer faces a surge in demand from the Covid-19 crisis.

Last week, a spokesperson for the owner of Fox’s Biscuits and Holland’s Pies said the company had launched a recruitment drive across its business for “several hundred” roles, adding: “The Government has rightly classified our colleagues in a critical sector and we are currently working in extremely challenging conditions to fulfil orders at the same time as keeping everyone safe.”

Kers said in the social media video published on 28 March: “2 Sisters’ job is literally to feed the nation. Getting food to people has never been so important. As we come together as a country to fight the coronavirus, we need everybody’s help to keep our factories running.

“We urgently need people so we can keep delivering a full range of products to supermarkets across the country. We are recruiting now for a wide range of factory and logistics jobs up and down the country. Please join us and help feed the nation.”

2 Sisters primary business is poultry, supplied to the major UK supermarkets, along with bakery and meal solutions, which includes private-label ready meals, soups and sauces, pizza, hot cross buns, and chilled and frozen fish.

The meal solutions unit has six manufacturing sites – two in Sheffield, and one each in Carlisle, Grimsby, Rogerstone and Nottingham encompassing companies such as Cavaghan & Gray; Gunstores Bakery; Grimsby Soups & Sauces; Pennine Foods; RF Brookes; and The Pizza Factory. That’s in addition to facilities serving Fox’s and Holland’s Pies, and also its poultry operations.
