US-based Green Giant brand owner B&G Foods has announced the acquisition of local vegan product manufacturer Farmwise Foods.
The deal, for an undisclosed sum, will see New Jersey-based B&G increase its plant-based product offering. Only yesterday (19 February) the diversified food group announced it is converting its Back to Nature snacking brand to fully plant-based as it seeks to “keep up with consumer eating trends”.
It said it plans to introduce Farmwise offerings into its Green Giant range.
Wellesley, Massachusetts-based Farmwise was founded by Dave and Cristina Peters with a “mission of developing healthier alternatives to some of America’s favourite foods without compromising on taste”.
Its brands include Farmwise, Veggie Fries, Veggie Tots and Veggie Rings. All are vegan, non-GMO project-verified and free of the top eight allergens including gluten, wheat, soy, dairy, tree nuts and peanuts. Farmwise products are sold in supermarkets across the US.
Jordan Greenberg, executive vice president and chief commercial officer of B&G Foods, said: “We are excited to increase our great tasting, plant-based product offerings with the acquisition of Farmwise.
