From 1 January, a general €12 (US$12) per tonne quota of 2.981 million tonnes will be opened for the wheat, with 38,000 tonnes earmarked for Canada and 572,000 tonnes for the US. Wheat imported outside this quota will attract €95 per tonne in duty.

For malting barley a general €8 per tonne quota of 50,000 tonnes will be opened and another quota of 300,000 tonnes (€16 per tonne) will be opened for other barley. Outside these quotas the rate will remain €93 per tonne.

The European Commission will now consult with Russia and Ukraine about more cereal quotas.
