Delimax-Montpak, a Canadian veal and lamb processor, has added another protein to its portfolio with the acquisition of local business Viandes Forget.

Financial details were not disclosed but, in a statement, Delimax-Montpak said the deal “strategically aligns with the group’s vision by enabling it to grow its processing capacity and enter the market of local beef”.

Montpak president Alex Fontaine added: “We are confident that this transaction will help us to expand our product offering to our customers and better serve the North American niche meat market.”

Delimax-Montpak is a business privately-owned by the Fontaine family and led by Alex and his brothers Donald and Fabien. The group owns 105 corporate farms and works with another nearly 270 affiliated farms. The company’s processing operations covers five plants in Canada and the US. Its subsidiaries include Catelli Brothers and The Fontelli Food Group is a subsidiary of our group.

Viandes Forget, founded by the Forget family nearly 50 years ago, has a multi-species slaughterhouse with some 70 employees. Délimax-Montpak added it would be able to “maintain its leadership in the local lamb market in eastern Canada” through the acquisition of the business. André Forget, will join the Délimax-Montpak executive team.
