Italian children are somewhat confused about organic food, according to a recent survey carried out by farming and environmental groups.

1,000 school children were asked questions about organic food and products. The survey found that the majority of children (70.6%) believe that organic food is healthier than non-organic, while 20% believe that organic food is made in a laboratory. 70.8% of children said that they would not eat fruit that was not visually perfect, while 78.3% said they would not eat vegetables that were not visually perfect. Almost a quarter of children said that they thought blemished products were due to pollution in the air where the food was grown.

Around three-quarters of the children said that they would not mind eating organic food at school, but very few actually knew if their school dinners contained any organic food, reported ANSA.
