Earnings on seafood exports during the five-month period were US$105m, with a target for the full year set at $300m.


The main seafood exports are fish, which is sold for around $920 per ton, and shrimp, which is sold for around $4,500 per ton. The main destinations for Myanmar’s exported seafood are China and Singapore.


Myanmar currently has 120 seafood processing plants, 25 of which are undergoing an upgrade to comply with international export standards.


Myanmar’s fish industry is the country’s third largest industry after agriculture and forestry, and accounts for 7.3% of gross domestic product, reported Bernama Daily News.
