Smithfield Foods, the US meat and branded products business owned by China’s WH Group, has appointed Dennis Organ as chief operating officer, a new role for the business.

It said the move is part of an “enhanced operational structure” which includes other leadership appointments.

Organ has been with Smithfield for eight years. most recently as senior vice president supply chain and DSD. In his new role he will “oversee and unify” all domestic business operations management, including the company’s hog production, fresh pork, and packaged meats businesses. 

He will be responsible for strategic development, day-to-day operations and continued improvement of the company’s US businesses.

The company said the new structure and leadership appointments are the realisation of its ‘One Smithfield’ initiative to unify all of Smithfield’s operations, brands, and more than 54,000 employees globally under one corporate umbrella.
